Dear Marisa & Mendelt,

It's pretty cool knowing that me and Marisa have the same last name, even though we aren't blood related. But what's even cooler is that we are related through Christ, and he is always gonna be there for you. I just hope for all the best when times get tough, and knowing that Jesus is there for you everyday, plus family and friends, it probably makes cancer just a little easier to handle. I want you to know that with all your srtuggling, and all the pain you have to go through, I and my family are praying for you everyday.

God Bless you and your kids,
Liss

Your letter to cancer makes sense, and your attitude makes sense.

Cancer is on the run, not you or your family.

We are all fighting right along beside you, even though you don't know us by name or face. We are here with you, with your wife, with your children.

Best to you all,
firefly

I found your blog through Matt Vaandering's own blog. I just want to encourage you in saying that I personally know that cancer can be beaten. My brother's ex-wife was diagnosed with interuterine cancer just 4days before they were to be married. The doctors told her that she would never have kids and that she may not live long because they were unsure of how far the cancer had spread. Well, 7 weeks after diagnosis she was cancer free and now has 2 kids with my brother (aged 4 and 6). Our family was determined that we were not going to let her die given ANY circumstances let alone the ones we were facing at that time.

This post you wrote is absolutely right. Cancer couldn't have taken Jesus into consideration because he HAS defeated it and as the Bible says WE will do greater things than He, so if He beat cancer, then it is not a challenge for us.

Dear Marisa and Mendelt,

Thank you Mendelt for your entry called ,Dear Cancer, last Sunday . It touched my heart to the core and the tears came. I love you both so much. God's love for us all knows no bounds.
Love,
Dad

p.s. Dear Kim R. Thank you for your humourous story about washing the clean laundry pile. I saw myself. One early morning I was ready to cook my oatmeal porridge in the microwave and I put the bowl in the fridge instead. I was ready to punch the start button and realized my mistake. I was so glad that I was alone but I still turned red. Then I started laughing.

Hello Marisa
You may already know this and I'm sure I have heard it before myself but it really sank in yesterday at church and what I learned was so very encouraging that I just have to share it with you. Did you know that Jesus also prays for us? Yes, in Hebrews 7:25 it says "...He always lives to make intercession for them (meaning us)." So, while many down here are praying for you and that is awesome just remember that Jesus too is praying for you and who better could you want to be praying for you than him?!
In Him,
Andrea

Dear Marisa,

I know Cheryl has told you what our family just went through with my dad's cancer diagnosis, and this song has been such a comfort to me the past few weeks. I wanted to share the words with you today. Continue to rest and trust in "The Love of God"...

The love of God is greater far than tongue or pen can ever tell,
It goes beyond the highest star and reaches to the lowest hell;
The guilty pair bowed down with care, God gave His Son to win:
His erring child He reconciled and pardoned from his sin.

O love of God, how rich and pure! How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure, the saints' and angels' song.

When years of time shall pass away and earthly thrones and kingdoms fall,
When men, who here refuse to pray, on rocks and hills and mountains call,
God's love so sure shall still endure, all measureless and strong:
Redeeming grace to Adam's race, the saints' and angels' song.

O love of God, how rich and pure! How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure, the saints' and angels' song.

Could we with ink the ocean fill and were the skies of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill and every man a scribe by trade,
To write the love of God above, would drain the ocean dry,
Nor could the scroll contain the whole tho' stretched from sky to sky.

O love of God, how rich and pure! How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure, the saints' and angels' song.

(Lyrics by Frederick M. Lehman, 1917)

Dear Marisa, I'm praying for you right now. Keep opening your heart up to be filled with that immeasurable love that has no end. (I love that last verse about draining the ocean dry...) May you experience a rich measure of that love every minute, and especially in the deepest, darkest hours. I'm praying God will keep pulling you up to see His great love for you and that you'll continue to cling to the cross and live every minute in the joy of the new life you have in Him. Keep shining for Him! We will continue to pray for a good report at the end of the month.

love in Christ,
Kim
