Jacoba has been wearing her uniform for 4 days straight. She put it on the day we got it and has worn it day and night since then. Even when she got ready for church, she put on her uniform.
Then the first soccer practice came. It was cold. 9 degrees. And windy. Very windy.
It was tough for even the toughest. And Jacoba had a tough time. She participated in one of the drills and then decided to practice her crying. I felt so bad for her. Thankfully my friend Floyd took Jacoba into the car and they practiced flipping pennies.
On the ride home, Jacoba asked me if there was soccer next week. I told her yes. Then she said,
“is it summer next week?”

It certainly is fun wearing “new” things.
They look great, Jacoba!
I saw Jacoba’s soccer cleats Sunday morning.
You’re a tough cookie and yes, next week should be summer – the Weather Network says a high of 21 or 22 and sunny! Next week will be better. Keep practicing Jacoba!
Go Maple Dip!

I took Morgan to her practice last night. I waited in the van – and was cold even in there!! I’m with Jacoba. Soccer should only be played in the summer!
Take care,
Christine

Hi Mendelt! Your Jacoba sounds like such a precious girl with beautiful traits. What a treasure she is with your other 2 children! You are so blest! All the best with these soccer games and yes may you have beautiful weather!
Just think you didn’t have any extra dirty laundry with Jacoba within the last couple of days! LOL

I’m with Jacoba, asking the same question!
Mendelt, thanks for sharing all the little moments – both those that make you smile and those that make you cry. While not all of us can be there in person, your sharing keeps your grief and your happiness – your journey – real for us. And, helps us on our journeys too. Thank you.

It’s awesome they are on the same team and that you are the coach! And my son Tanner has been asking the same question…when is it going to be summer? When indeed. See you at the park whenever it happens. Have fun coach.

Good to see that you’re a man after my own heart, having bought those shirts plenty big enough, Mendelt. It’s good for them to grow into stuff, I certainly agree. And by the look of your picture, Jacoba will still be wearing hers when she’s eleven years old…
Fortunately, she’ll have made the West Ham first team, long before then. Unless Maple Dip have made it to the Premiership, that is. After all, with such managerial talent behind them, anything’s possible.

Good question, Jacoba! Who wants to play soccer, let alone practice in this weather!!! I will pray that summer will be here next week for you… (and maybe I’ll get some too….)
