We got the bad news yesterday that the spot on the liver revealed cancer as well as the previously known breast cancer. So now we meet with the surgeon today and find out the next strategy. This is real life. Love MdH

Crap…not the news we were hoping and praying for…but onward ho! We’re in this with you guys…a whole new world of breast cancer, chemo, and whatever else this journey entails…
…I thought of you guys and your friends and family when I recently came across one of Lauren’s favourite Bible verses…”Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand”(Isaiah 41:10)…actually almost everything I read and sing these days brings you guys to mind…the “hope” and “peace” of Christmas took on a whole new meaning this year…
I know you’re not shy, Mendelt, so ask for whatever you or Marisa need and we’ll do whatever we can to help…
Godspeed!

Well Marisa I missed giving you your Christmas and New Years hugs. So here they are via internet…(:-)) (:-)). I can’t imagine how your outlook on life has changed in these few short weeks but please know that GOD hasn’t. He still loves you and I pray that you will continue to feel that truth during this process.
If there is anything more, that is other than our prayers, that we as the deHaan family can do for you please just ask.
God bless!!

I want to thank you both for setting up the blog, so that we can stay in the loop with the updated information. I’m so sad about the news on the liver. I was talking to Fred (Breukelman) and Eric about Fred’s mother’s story, and also as you and I discussed, Mendelt, Anita’s story, and those both fill me with such a strong hope and conviction for recovery. After telling HDCH’s staff today and praying for you Marisa, a number of people expressed their concern and individual hope for you — Betty Heusinkveld and Marge Postuma to name two. You are remembered there from your student days. 🙂 Rachel and I love you all. We will continue to pray. I hope you’re both able to find rest in the midst of it all.

Marisa and Mendelt,
Please know that you and your family are in our daily prayers as you start this journey! Also know that you are not in this journey alone – we are all part of His extended “family.” May God grant much peace, comfort and strength to both of you! If there is anything that we can do for you, please don’t hesitate to ask!
With love,
Kristen and Jason
