After dropping off Zion and Jacoba to the bus stop this morning, Zekijah and I came back into the house.
I carried her in and put her in the room that has our piano. She sat on the ground and grabbed some toys. I sat behind the piano.
I started to play. Zekijah said “play softer!”. I played softer. This seemed to satisfy her. Then she seemed focused on her toys.
I started to improvise on a song called “I love Zekijah”.
She turned when she heard her name. She said, “Heit, what are you doing?”
I said, “I am loving you”.
She said, “stop loving me”.
I said, “never”.
She seemed okay with that answer.

Hi Mendelt,
Your story makes me smile. I love the feist of your girls – a lot like my own – ever wonder what they’ll be like when they get older and really learn to speak their minds?

Hi Mendelt!
Tonight I went to the Christian bookstore in Burlington to make a return. While I was there, I thought I would take a peak at their music section. I found a Bible songs cd for our children and then I thought I would take a look for me too. I always enjoy the Wow cd’s and found one titled WOW Hymns. You can listen to the cd using their computer and scanning the barcode. Anyway, I listened to song number 6…I Need Thee Every Hour sung by Jars of Clay. Within 30 seconds, I knew that I wanted to buy the cd and of course, I listened to it multiple times on the way home. I have since discovered that Jars of Clay has made a cd titled Redemption Songs that has other hymns sung to their style of music.
I thought about you when I was listening to the words of the song. They apply to all of us, yet at some points in our lives, we may feel the urgency of these words more than other times.
I looked up the words tonight and found a website about the author of the song, Annie Hawks. One day when she was doing her household duties, she felt so near to God and wondered how anyone could live without Him in joy or in pain. The words, “I need Thee every hour” came to her mind. She later gave the words to her pastor and he added the tune and the refrain. Years later, she said that she never really understood why the words had touched so many people, but after her husband past away and she was faced with such a great loss, she understood the comforting power of these words.
I need Thee every hour, most gracious Lord;
No tender voice like Thine can peace afford.
Refrain
I need Thee, O I need Thee;
Every hour I need Thee;
O bless me now, my Savior,
I come to Thee.
I need Thee every hour, stay Thou nearby;
Temptations lose their power when Thou art nigh.
Refrain
I need Thee every hour, in joy or pain;
Come quickly and abide, or life is in vain.
Refrain
I need Thee every hour; teach me Thy will;
And Thy rich promises in me fulfill.
Refrain
Mendelt, I pray that these words will be a blessing to you like they have been to me, and obviously to many others!
There was a neat Bible verse at the top of the screen, but I forget now what it was. Let me look it up again and I will send it in a minute…

“Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”
Hebrews 4:16
Beautiful. Go to the throne with confidence, Mendelt. You WILL receive mercy and FIND grace to help you in your time of need!
Love, Julie
